House System

Penketh High School operates under a house system. Each of the 5 houses will act as a "home" base and be made up of pupils from each of the different year groups and the staff (teaching and non-teaching).
In such a large establishment it is felt that the creation of "small schools" has a positive and beneficial effect in terms of support and care, friendly competition and a greater cohesion as pupils of all ages are brought together in a common purpose.
Each house will have its own geographical base giving the opportunity to develop its own identity and ethos.
The theme of "family" and "home" is further enhanced by our naming of Houses after ex pupils who have used their skills and talents to reach the highest levels in their chosen fields.
Our 5 "House Heroes" are
• Robin Jarvis, the highly acclaimed children's author;
• Kate Simmons who was a principal dancer with the Royal and Festival Ballet companies;
• Ian Mackinnon who's animation company was responsible for Bob the Builder and many other television and commercial animations;
• Gary Owen, ex-Manchester City and England and now a successful businessman and Century FM radio presenter;
• Mark Fazakerley who achieved the highest awards from Liverpool and Edinburgh Universities and now runs a very prestigious practice in Warrington
The House Heroes are a living inspiration for the pupils. They will be accessible and their achievements will encourage pupils to celebrate their own successes whilst striving to achieve higher goals like those of their role models.
School ties are black and carry double stripes in the House colours which are:
OWEN - Silver Stripes
JARVIS - Gold Stripes
FAZAKERLY - Green Stripes
SIMMONS - Blue Stripes
MACKINNON - Red Stripes
