In 2007 Penketh High School became the first school to produce a full-length feature film, ‘days’. The film achieved critical acclaim and national coverage from the media including live BBC Television, ITV, Channel 4 and The Times. The film was given a public release by the Odeon cinema in Warrington. Our second feature film, a comedy entitled ‘Louie’ was released in March 2009 and also performed extremely well on public release.
May 2010 will see the release of the school’s most ambitious film project to date. ‘The Opportunity’ is a feature film produced as a result of the school’s partnership with Kwadeda High School in South Africa. The film, which focuses on a group of friends who travel from South Africa to England, deals with important issues such as knife crime, STIs and racial prejudice. This collaborative project, partly filmed in South Africa, has provided pupils from both Penketh and Kwadeda with an unforgettable cultural and learning experience. Liverpool FC has provided strong support to the project and part of the storyline focuses on a teenager from Soweto who is signed by the club.
