Learning for Life Key Stage 5

Learning for life offers four social science based A-Levels (Psychology, Sociology, Law, Government & Politics), taught by specialist teachers. All subjects cover a variety topics and are 100% examination, in January and June and offer the opportunity to apply learning to real life situations e.g. trips to Manchester and Warrington Crown Courts and to conduct specific research e.g. The Matching Hypothesis (Do couples match in level of physical attractiveness). Psychology topics include: Attachment, Stress, Abnormality, Memory, Social Influence, Relationships, Gender Formation, Mental Illness and the Media. Sociology topics include: The family, Education, Beliefs and Crime and Deviance. Law topics include;

Unit 1 Sources of Law which examines the various sources of English law, this looks at the EU, the work of the courts and the work of Parliament.
Unit 2 English Legal System is an investigation into police powers, the powers of the courts, types and reasons for punishment, civil law, alternative dispute resolution and legal aid. In year 13 pupils investigate the criminal law in detail.

Government and Politics topics include; Unit 1 Contemporary Politics of the UK investigates the role and structure of British politics. 
Unit 3 Contemporary Government of the UK investigates the changing power and influence of the UK Government. 
In year 13 pupils study political theories and practices, from democracy to anarchy.

Studying any of the social science subjects provides you with the opportunity to study individuals and society in a new and interesting way, making you think differently about many things taken for granted and can lead to a variety of different careers.
