GCSE History is one of the most popular and successful option subjects at Penketh High School. We offer two very different GCSE courses. The GCSE History Modern World course focuses on key events in the twentieth century: The Treaty of Versailles, the rise of Hitler and the Nazis, the causes of the Second World War as well as a British Depth Study. In contrast, the GCSE History SHP course focuses on Crime and Punishment through time, Elizabethan England and a site study based on a medieval castle. Pupils who opt for GCSE History will have the opportunity to take part in several field trips. In the past these have included residential tour of WWI Battlefields in Belgium and France, day trips to the Imperial War Museum, and a performance of Hitler on Trial.
