Food Studies & Child Development Additional Information

Throughout the year, the department embraces national and local initiatives. This year, we will be focusing on British Food Fortnight where we will be encouraging all pupils to examine where the ingredients they are buying have been grown or produced.

We have participated in the National FutureChef competition for the last five years achieving success at a local, regional and national level.

We offer Christmas Cake decorating opportunities at an after school club, and have previously done a similar activity at Easter time.

All pupils are encouraged to enter the Active Kids Get Cooking initiative as well as the Taste of Success awards.

In an attempt to engage with parents, we have been selected as the host school for the local launch of the national Let’s Get Cooking initiative. More information will follow in October.

The department runs a Virtual Babies programme, allowing GCSE Child Development students the chance to look after a Virtual baby for the weekend.
