The departmental teaching staff are Mrs Kennedy, Mrs Bibby, Mrs McLeod and Mrs Austin. We have two fully equipped Food rooms as well as ICT facilities.
Pupils are taught in mixed ability groupings. Lessons are timetabled for 60 minutes once per fortnight. Pupils are afforded the opportunity to develop a range of skills using a variety of ingredients. Ingredients should be brought in from home for lessons. Lists of ingredients/recipes are stated in advance. Pupils should take their ingredients to their food room for safe keeping, storing high risk food in the fridges provided.
The course is designed to incorporate the Governments’ Licence To Cook programme and pupils are assessed during specific practical sessions across the year. In addition, all pupils have to complete online assessments demonstrating their knowledge. All pupils are issued with homework booklets containing tasks relating to the work undertaken along with challenge activities to extend their learning.
