“How proud we are of your children’s dedication and hard work..we couldn’t ask for any more!” parents were told at the Performing Arts Evening on Tuesday 10th November.
Students enthusiastically performed Dance and Music pieces rehearsed as part of the curriculum, and extra curricula work in Performing Arts Club, as well as producing their own choreography and compositions.
Our pupils performed individually and together, dancing, singing, and playing in the Penketh High School Brass Band which is reknowned for our Christmas appearances in the community!
The programme began with dramatic, exciting and spectacular Street Dancing by Year 10/11 students, followed by an apparently effortless and wonderful contemporary piece by Charlotte Brinksman in Yr 12. The Performing Arts Club, started 2 years ago, has grown to 75 pupils and we are very proud of them. 50 of them performed enthusiastically,“Seasons of Love” featuring Stephanie Roberts and Daniel Green and with obvious enjoyment, and Ben Cupit gave an excellent rendition of “Empty Chairs, Empty Tables” from “Les Miserables”. Louise Bossons and Ana Hutchings Yr 11 danced an athletic and agile duet which they had choreographed in collaboration with Miss L Salisbury,
Then Stephanie Roberts sang beautifully, “Think of me” from “The Phantom of the Opera”.
Sophie Bailey and Lauren Wright in Yr 11 executed a fantastically synchronized duet and Act 1 closed with the brilliant teamwork of the Yr 10 GCSE Dancers, “999 Emergency Response” danced to music by Queen.
Act 2 opened was opened by the Brass Band playing an ABBA medley beginning with “Mama Mia” and ending with “Thank you for the music”.
“B of the Bang” by Yr 11 GCSE Dancers, an original colourful, lively piece, full of energy interpreted the famous abstract sculpture, starting off on the ‘B of the Bang’ of the starting pistol.
The Performing Arts pupils performed an exhuberant “One Night Only” from “Dream Girls” featuring Megan Pearson, Rebecca Green and Molly Moore followed by an encore of “Seasons of Love “ accompanied by Callum Boles on the drum.
Tasha Robb and Rachel Brownbill danced a Yr 12 duet and the final dance was a superb Yr 11 duet performed by Ellen Bleasedale and Bianca Evans.
The evening concluded with an unforgettable medley from “Hairspray” featuring Rebecca Green, Molly Moore, Megan Pearson, Lauran Wright and Ben Cupit!
“A big thank you to all Performing Arts staff involved in putting on a great show last week. The number of pupils now involved in performing arts activities is impressive and, for all those who attended the show, pupil enjoyment of performing was obvious to see,” Mr J Hughes, Headteacher commented.
