ICT Key Stage 3

The key stage 3 curriculum in ICT starts each year with a unit on Internet Safety. Each year group then follows units of work to meet the national strategy.
In year 7 pupils follow the Opening Minds curriculum and have ICT lessons when working on certain projects. These are: Choices, The Natural World and Business Enterprise. All pupils in years 8 and 9 are taught discrete ICT once a week. Pupils are set based on ability. In year 8 the ICT4Life scheme is used which follows the national strategy. Units covered are: Unit 1: A video guide to collaborating safely (Video production) Unit 2: Create an e-time capsule (website production) Unit 3: Help fight global warning (spreadsheets) Unit 4: An e-card system for your school (control) Pupils are assessed at the end of each unit and given a national curriculum level. Verbal and written feedback is given throughout a unit. In year 9 the following units of work are completed; Unit 1: Business Enterprise Unit 2: ICT and Society Unit 3: Animation Unit 4: I-tunes database Unit 5: Introduction to KS4 work/courses Again pupils are assessed at the end of each unit and given a national curriculum level. Verbal and written feedback is given throughout a unit.
