Our partnership: Kwadeda High School & Penketh High School
The aims of our partnership agreement are to create a partnership which encourages an inclusive & collaborative approach to learning:
- • Learning from others
- • Learning how other people live
- • learning how other people work
- • Learning how others understand and view the world
This is to be achieved whilst taking into consideration our differences and our similarities.
Learning objectives
- • To develop a whole school understanding of the global dimension in the curriculum
- • To develop knowledge, understanding & skills for global Citizenship
- • To develop an awareness of human rights & responsibilities & social justice in a global world
- • To develop awareness of conflict resolution, the promotion of peace & celebration of diversity
- • To develop a futures education to allow learners to reflect upon their hopes for the future
- • To develop their values & perceptions of themselves and the world in which they live in order to be a good citizen now and in the future.
We are proud of our partnership with kwadeda High School which was established in April 07. Our Head teacher and an Assistant Head teacher visited Kwadeda High School in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa and established a positive relationship with staff and pupils. We have established a Partnership Agreement and have funded a reciprocal visit for four South African colleagues to visit our school for a week at the end of September 07.
We believe the partnership will support our holistic view of the children in our care. Our partnership has clear learning objectives to enrich the learning of pupils from both schools and to supports whole school Citizenship and the ECM agenda.
As part of our Learning for Life curriculum pupils in both schools have produced a DVD illustrating the school’s past, present and future and learners have included material about the wider community in which they live. The positive contributions from pupils at both schools have inspired pupils as they watch each other’s work and learn about, and from each other.
We have provided media training for the staff in our partner school and we donated a laptop and projector & media equipment, so pupils at Kwadeda High can watch the DVDs our pupils make and make their own DVDs to send to our students. We intend the themes of future DVDs to embrace the learning outcomes of the ECM agenda. We plan to use media as a way to sustain the link and allow pupils to communicate and learn from each other, as our partner school does not have internet or e mail. We are planning an ambitious project to make a film together with our partner school to build on the success of our recent school feature length film “Days.”
We are excited about our collaboration with kwadeda High as it provides opportunities for our children. Our school newspaper journalists also plan to cover the South African visit to our school. This newspaper will be posted to our partner school, so pupils their can read about the strengthening link between our two schools.
We are excited about our collaboration with kwaedea High as it provides opportunities for our children and pupils at both schools are excited about the link! (see DVD) Our pupils are gaining knowledge & understanding of wider global issues and are establishing friendships. We hope they will demonstrate feelings of solidarity with others and will articulate accurate and positive views of other races & cultures in an open and sensitive manner.
The best support we have of our application is the voices of our young people – watch the two DVDs made by pupils from both schools and you will see how our link has impacted upon self-esteem and how our children are benefiting from the very best learning experiences and developmental opportunities!
