Wednesday 21st October 2009 (1pm – 3pm)
The Year 5 and 6 pupils competed in 2 groups with semi-finals and finals played at the end.
Year 10 and Year 12 B’ Tec Sports Leaders organised it, along with help from Miss Jones.
The school competing were;
- - Old Hall Primary School
- - Sankey Valley St James Primary School
- - Penketh South Primary School
- - Great Sankey Primary School
- - St Barnabus Primary School
- - Evelyn Street Primary School
After all the schools had competed, the final was between: Penketh South Primary School and Old Hall Primary School.
The winners were Penketh South Primary School.
We watched Old Hall and they had a warm up before they had a little training session, which was a quick game of penalty shootouts. After that they played some warm up games.
We interviewed Abigail Jones of Penketh South about what she thought of the day. She commented “It was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed it a lot. It was such fun and I am so happy that we won in the final. Playing the other teams from different schools was a lot of fun too.”
The Year 12s also commented on the day:
Luke Pomfrett – ‘I think the girls’ teams are good, but with JSLA leaders going into school they could be better next year. They need a bit of coaching and maybe a girl role model to follow for experience.’
Matt Twiss - ‘They’re pretty good, they have a great ability and goal – shooting skills.’
Ryan Major – ‘The girls had a very good attitude and spirit. Everyone enjoyed the day and had a good time playing footie.
Chris Bingham – ‘The team I coached was Penketh South, the team all knew how to play and have been through the exercises I set; the girls adapted well when two players from another school joined. The team could be better, if they had a bit more teamwork.
Jack Giblin – ‘I had the other Penketh South B-Team, they had an awesome start, our defence was unbeatable. Out Centre-Midfielder, Yi Han scored a great goal and overall made a great effort.
Mr. Roper, who was watching the competition commented, ‘A great afternoon of girls’ football where everybody had loads of fun!’
The next final will be a Year 5 and 6 Boys Football Competition.
