David Briggs, Lord Lieutenant for Cheshire and Daresbury Laboratory kindly hosted a Business Breakfast on behalf of Young Enterprise, the UK's foremost education business charity.
Colleagues from Bentley Motors, Morning Foods, EA Technology, Affirm 4, Coutts and Co, Midas Touch, Aurora Consulting, Big Storage, Copley Square and Meadow Foods all took time to meet and speak with Young Enterprise Company Programme Alumni and learn about how they could support Young Enterprise.
Team Apollo from Penketh High School in Warrington, who produced an anti-bullying DVD and 2011 Student of the Year, Mike Davies from Upton-by-Chester High School, shared their experiences of setting up a business and how working with mentors from local companies had helped them develop key enterprise and employability skills.
David Briggs, also owner of Dawson's Music, appealed to the invited audience "It is vital that more young people choose business as a career and in particular that they have the confidence to start new businesses. Young Enterprise gives school children the opportunity to run a real live business and in doing this they learn so much about what makes a business a success or a failure. I really urge all businesses to support Young Enterprise. The more young people who are excited about the possibility of running their own business the better. "
The Team Apollo from Penketh which won one of the categories in last years competition spoke about their experiences in setting up their business and showed the DVD on Anti-Bullying which was very well received by the audience. One member said of the DVD “It sent out a very powerful message”.
Rather like Dragons Den the team were given sound advice from the business people on how they could further develop and market their product.
