PUPILS from Penketh High School have been showing off their broadcasting skills on an internet radio station

A number of pupils take turns each week to present the Schools Out show every Saturday from 12-2pm on Radio Warrington, a volunteer run station that transmits 24 hours a day.

Assistant Head and School Sport Coordinator Miss S Jones said: “The show is designed to appeal to teenagers and therefore has relevant topics each week.  We have done shows about exam revision, Help For Heroes and university applications.”

In November 2010 the pupils transmitted live from Warrington Market, interviewing stall holders and members of the public about their products and purchases as part of the Olden Days event, has been advertised by ITV.

Fellow Radio Warrington presenter Phil Edwards, who supported the pupils during the show, said the pupils did “terrifically well” in hosting this unique programme.

Pupils make sure they’re keeping up with Curtis

THREE pupils from Penketh High School have shown they can handle the pressures of interviewing a celebrity as they spoke to author and animator Curtis Jobling as part of their weekly radio programme.

Pupils William Little, Chris Pearson and John Sherratt host Radio Warrington’s School’s Out Show and spoke to Curtis, a former Penketh student himself, about his work on Bob The Builder and his new book, Wereworld: Rise Of The Wolf, which has been nominated in this years Waterstone’s Children Book prize.

Assistant Header Teacher and School Sports Coordinator Miss S Jones said: “They did really well and even persuaded Curtis to read an extract from his new book. They also managed to get him to draw some Bob The Builder characters which he signed for them and they were really chuffed.”
