After a mission to Mexico, school sets new sights on African adventure

FUNDRAISING events have been planned over the next two months to allow 12 Penketh High School pupils go to Namibia to help build a school during their summer holidays.

After last year’s successful trip to Mexico, the pupils hope to raise £3,600 each to go trekking and help with a number of projects in the African country. Michelle Fox, who held fundraising events last year to help pupils with the cost, said: “It’s a fantastic experience for them and when they come back you can see how much they’ve grown. “The group’s ages range between 15 and 18 so some of them will be going off to university when they get back. “It’s a bit of an ordeal for the parents waving them off but it’s well worth it when they come back.” The expedition has been organised by World Challenge which provides educational trips in the developing world that teaches life skills to help poorer communities. Michelle has already raised £1,200 after holding a New Year’s Eve party but hopes to raise more with a number of events including an evening of clairvoyance with a medium at Eagle Sports social club, Thornton Road, Friday, January 22, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6. A charity fashion show is also taking place at the school on Thursday February 25 at 7pm. Tickets are £3 with a mix of high street and designer labels on show which can all be bought on the night. For more information on either event, contact Michelle on 07890 091974.
