The End of Key Stage 3 (Year 9) marks an important stage in every child’s school career. It is usually the first opportunity young people have to make some decisions about the courses they wish to follow in the future and a time when they are expected to take increasing responsibility for their education and future career development
The first important point to make is that all pupils will follow a core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, P.E. and Learning for Life. We believe this gives pupils a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum and a firm platform for future specialised study, career development and adult life. In addition to the core subjects, however, we are able to offer a broad range of optional courses, both academic and vocational, from which we will help our pupils select a pathway that best suits their ability and interests and gives the best opportunity for each pupil to achieve success.
I urge all pupils and parents to take time to read this booklet carefully, and to heed the advice offered about making choices. If you would like any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Gibbs (Deputy Headteacher), Mr. Kay (Deputy Headteacher), Mrs. Jenkinson (Key Stage 4 Leader), Mrs. Turner (Head of Sixth Form) or Mrs. S. Wright (Careers).
Making decisions can be exciting but once made they only ever become the right decisions if you have the right attitude and approach towards future study. We don’t choose success; we need to make it happen.
Best Wishes
