Welcome to you all from the Governors at Penketh High School. The new web site offers us an excellent opportunity to let you all know about the school and the governance in the school and how it works and to keep you better informed. To introduce myself who do not know me, I am the Chair of Governors John Holmes and have been involved with the school for some years. I have listed the governors and who appointed or elected them.

As you will be aware we appointed a new Head teacher Mr Jeff Hughes who took up his post on 1^st of January 2009, this is the most important task that governors perform. The school drive to become an outstanding school continues and the pupils at Penketh will continue to benefit from the teaching of our dedicated staff.

Currently the minutes of the governors meetings are in the school reception area for anyone wishing to read them and we are now looking at posting them on our web site which we hope will be more convenient for parents. This will take a little time to introduce and will build up the minutes on a termly basis. Governors work within the framework provided by the Law on Governance and we follow those rules carefully.

If you wish to contact any of the governors they can be contacted by mail or messages left at the school. This should not be the first point of contact and if you have concerns about your child please go through the following process and it is only when these have been exhausted that governors get involved. The normal route is form tutor, head of house, deputy, head teacher then governors. You will find that queries are answered more effectively using this route. As a governing body we decided some years ago to employ a clerk separately from the school. The clerk is Mrs Irene Coates and she work for the governors so is very much independent of the school. You can contact her by writing to the school or leaving a message, she does not work in the school full time.
